The agency plays a key role for policy formulation of the Canadian dairy industry. Dairy commissions organize policies that are common between the federal and provincial government.
It was established in 1966 and in the 1970’s it was working under the national supply management system. Initially it was known as facilitator and administrator dairy policies. Because the agency provides a full working and management framework dairy industry.
The purpose of establishing is to ensure the policies on investment, quality and supply of dairy products. In 1980 it was declare as a federal agency and dairy commissioner was appointed.
The CDC is responsible for the market prices of dairy products and their supply. It acts as a bridge between consumers and farmers. The CDC administers the following programs
